Initial Response

Found out just after my 44th birthday that my wife, Emily, was pregnant. I'll be in my 60s at high school graduation -- but who's counting... Yes, I am excited, proud, and thoroughly intimidated by the whole new development.

After we told our families about the good news we then went "national" or actually, "international," informing our friends around the world about our new addition.

We are opting to avoid knowing the sex/gender of the package until the moment of delivery and the little one sees the light of day, sucks in oxygen on his/her own, and gazes back at its proud, bewildered and loving parents. At that point we better be ready with a catalogue of names for selection of one we deem most appropriate. I'm actually partial to "Crash," "Ivar," "Penelope," or "Quinn" -- any of which, in my mind, would suit a male or female. Emily does not entirely agree: something I need to work on (I know, good luck).

More to come so stay tuned.
